Call for Papers

The Chinese culture has received increasing attention and appreciation with the fast growth of political, economic and cultural exchanges and integrations around the world. Globalization, informatization and digitalization have offered more opportunities and challenges than ever in communicating Chinese culture globally.

To enhance Chinese cultural communication from global perspectives, Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information of Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Association of Journalism History (China), and School of Journalism and Communication of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China) will jointly hold the Sixth Conference on Chinese Media and Chinese Civilization in Singapore August 7-9, 2009.

Theme and Topics
The theme of this conference is “Communicating Chinese Culture: from China to the World”. Topics include but are not limited to the following:
1. History of Chinese cultural communication
2. Chinese cultural communication in the age of globalization: Conceptual evolution
3. Chinese language media in Chinese civilization: Current situation and trends
4. Chinese culture in intercultural communication: Challenges and strategies
5. Chinese culture in intercultural communication: Identity and plurality
6. Chinese language media in intercultural communication: Challenges and strategies
7. Chinese language media audiences in intercultural communication
8. Chinese civilization and crisis communication
9. Chinese language media in the age of globalization: Changes, challenges and opportunities
10. Communicating the Chinese culture: The role of overseas Chinese media
11. Reforms and effects of China’s international communication
12. Chinese cultural communication after Olympics: Opportunities and challenges

Registration Fees
Academics and professionals: SGD 170 (or RMB 800)

Deadlines
Full Paper/Panel Proposal Submission Deadline: February 1, 2009
Paper Acceptance Notification: April 1, 2009

Submission of Full Papers
1. The length of full papers must not exceed 8,000 words (including text, figures, tables and references), with an abstract of 300 words.
2. Panel proposal should provide the title, an introduction, and contact information of the chair, discussant and participants.
3. The submissions and presentations can be in either Chinese or English.
4. All papers and panel proposals should be in Word format.
5. All submissions should include author (panel organizer)’s name, affiliation, and contact information.
